How To Select A Diamond
CUT – When a faceted diamond is cut to good proportions, light will reflect from one mirror-like facet to another resulting in a display of brilliance and fire. Diamonds that are cut too deep or too shallow spill and lose light through the side or the bottom.
CARAT – A diamond’s size is measured in carat weight, and each carat is equal to 100 points. A 0.75 carat diamond is the same as a 75-point diamond or a ¾ carat stone.
COLOR – Diamonds are graded by color, starting at D and continuing through the alphabet (see chart below.) While many diamonds appear colorless, they may actually have subtle yellow or brown tones. The closer to colorless a diamond is (D), the more vividly it reflects light.

CLARITY – Virtually all natural diamonds contain identifying characteristics; these characteristics are known as inclusions. These are nature’s birthmarks; they commonly look like crystals, clouds or feathers under a 10x-loupe (gemologist’s magnifying glass). The number, color, type, size and position of these birthmarks affect a diamond’s value - ranging from flawless to imperfect. This scale is represented from left to right by the chart below.

Why Silver Tarnishes, and How to Protect it
Unlike gold or platinum, sterling silver can react to particles in the air – sulfur in particular – and develop a black tarnish. This micro-thin coating is the result of oxidation. To prevent tarnishing, silver can be coated with a thin layer of rhodium – a shiny member of the platinum family. (Even when tarnished, silver does not deteriorate like iron-based metals or copper, thankfully.) When tarnish sets in, it can be easily removed with silver polish or a silver cleaning cloth. Wearing your silver jewelry constantly won’t tarnish it. It is also helpful to remember that silver is a soft metal, so it needs to be stored separately from your other jewelry.
